1. Standard Overview
GB/T 14291-2016 Welded Steel Pipe for Ore Pulp Transportation is the current recommended national standard, implemented on July 1, 2017, replacing the old version GB/T 14291-2006. Core Position: Specifies technical requirements for welded steel pipes used to transport solid-containing fluids (ore powder, slurry, mud) in mining and dredging scenarios.
2. Scope of Application
Applies to straight-seam welded steel pipes for ore dressing plants, tailings ponds, river/port dredging. Not applicable to high-pressure oil/gas, chemical corrosive media, etc.
3. Key Technical Requirements
Dimensions & Tolerances: Clear tolerances for OD, wall thickness, length, and straightness; standard length 4–12m, cut-to-length tolerance +15mm.
Materials & Grades: Mainly Q235 series, Q345 series; also weldable mild steels. Chemical composition and mechanical properties comply with GB/T 700, GB/T 1591, etc.
Welding & Quality: Straight-seam resistance/ submerged arc welding; NDT required for welds. Hydrostatic test for each pipe, hold ≥5s without leakage.
Others: Surface quality, inspection rules, packaging, marking, and quality certificates for traceability.
4. Main Applications
Mine air compression, drainage, tailings transportation, gas drainage; river/port dredging slurry transportation.
| Application Environment | Recommended Steel Grade | Core Advantages | Suitable Scenarios |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clean water / low-pressure air | Q235A/B | Low cost, easy welding | Mine ventilation, general drainage, non-abrasive media |
| Mildly abrasive slurry (low concentration) | Q235C/Q345A | Higher strength, slight erosion resistance | Low-concentration tailings, general ore powder transport |
| Moderately abrasive slurry (medium concentration) | Q345B/Q355B | High strength, good wear resistance & toughness | Main ore pulp in beneficiation plants, medium-concentration tailings |
| Severely abrasive / high-concentration slurry | Q355C/D | Excellent low-temperature toughness, impact & wear resistance | High-concentration tailings, coarse particle slurry, cold regions |
| Dredging (mud/sand) | Q345B/Q355B | Sand erosion resistance, cost-effective | River dredging, port dredging, long-distance mud transport |
Selection Tips (English)
Select grades based on abrasion, concentration, temperature: higher strength for more severe abrasion/higher concentration.
For cold regions (< -20℃), prefer Q355C/D for low-temperature toughness.
Sales communication: Confirm medium, concentration, pressure, temperature first for quick grade matching.
