Advantages Of Valve




Fluid resistance
Valves offer a very small fluid resistance. The minimal fluid resistance is due to the straight inner media channel of the body which allows the medium to flow directly through the valve without changing direction. As such, the flow's path is unobstructed.
Energy-efficiency
Valves are an energy-efficient valve option, as the movement direction or ram is perpendicular to the media flow direction. As a result, less power is consumed when opening or closing the valves in comparison to globe valves. Due to their energy-efficiency, they help reduce total ownership cost.
Simple body
Valves are composed of a relatively simple body. Therefore, they are easier to operate compared to isolation valves with more complex designs.
Dual flow direction
Valves have the capacity to be used in any direction in the circuit. In other words, their media flow is unobstructed for all directions of the valve body and they aren't subject to the medium's directional flow. This makes them ideal for use in pipelines where the flow direction may change depending on the medium.
Minimal erosion
In comparison to other valve options, valves typically experience less erosion on their sealing surface when they are fully open. This minimal erosion is largely attributed to the valve's tight seal functioning.
Minimum pressure loss
Due to the laminar flow that they provide, the pressure loss of valve is minimal. It's always helpful when pressure loss can be mitigated.
Types of Valve
Butterfly Valves
Butterfly valve is also part of the quarter turn valve family. What makes butterfly valve distinct from the other valves is the flat to a concave disc that attaches to the valve stem. Positioned in the middle of the valve with the stem bored into it or attached at one side, the disc blocks media flow when the valve is closed. The stem adds support to the disc. This design allows butterfly valve to throttle when there is incremental opening of the valve.
Ball Valves
Ball valve is part of the quarter turn valve family. The distinct feature of a ball valve is its hollow ball-shaped disc that acts to stop or start media flow. The ball disc is one of the quickest valves because it only needs a quarter turn to open or close.
Gate Valves
Gate valve is another member of shut off/on valve family. What makes this unique is its disc movement is linear. The disc is either gate or wedge-shaped, which has an effective shut-off and on mechanism. Gate valve is primarily suited for isolation.
Check Valves
Check valve relies on internal pressure, instead of outside action, for opening and closing. Also known as non-return valve, prevention of backflow is the main function of a check valve.
Globe Valve
Globe valve looks like a globe with a plug-type disc. It is part of the linear motion valve family. Aside from being a great turn off/on valve, globe valve also has great throttling capabilities.
Needle Valve
Needle valve gains its name from the needle-like shape of its disc. Its mechanism acts similarly to that of globe valve. Needle valve provides more precision and control in smaller piping systems. Still part of the quarter turn family, needle valve functions better in low flow rates.
Pinch Valve
Also called the clamp valve, pinch valve is another valve for stop/start and throttling. Pinch valve belongs to the linear motion valve family. The linear motion allows unobstructed flow of media. The pinching mechanism of the pinch tube inside the valve acts to control the fluid flow.
Plug Valve
Plug valve belongs to the quarter turn valve family. The disc acts as a bubble tight shut-off and on plug or cylinder. Aptly named as the plug valve due to its tapered end. Its closing and opening mechanism is similar to that of a ball valve.
Pressure Relief Valve
Pressure relief valve refers to a valve that releases or limits pressure from the pipelines to maintain the pressure balance and to avoid build-up. It is sometimes mistakenly called the pressure safety valve.

Disc
The disc is the primary component that controls the flow. It rotates on a shaft, allowing it to either open or close the flow path.
Shaft
The shaft connects the disc to the actuator (in actuated valves) and provides support for the disc's rotation. It is usually located at the center of the valve body.
Body
The body houses the disc and the shaft. It's designed to endure high pressure and is constructed from materials like cast iron, stainless steel, or plastic, depending on the service conditions.
Seat
The seat is crucial for ensuring a leak-free seal when the valve is closed. It provides a surface for the disc to rest against, preventing any backflow. Seats can be made from various materials, depending on the fluid passing through the valve.
