1. Main Content of EN 10210 Standard
EN 10210 is a European standard specifically for hot-finished structural hollow sections (e.g., square, rectangular, round tubes). It consists of two parts:
EN 10210-1: Specifies technical delivery conditions, including chemical composition, mechanical properties (yield strength, tensile strength, impact energy), dimensional tolerances, surface quality, non-destructive testing, marking, and documentation.
EN 10210-2: Specifies dimensions and sectional properties, such as outer diameter, side length, wall thickness, length, straightness, cross-sectional area, moment of inertia, and section modulus - used for structural design and selection.
This standard applies to construction, bridges, industrial structures, machinery, energy facilities, etc., ensuring hollow sections meet European engineering requirements for load-bearing, seismic resistance, and durability.
2. Common Steel Grade Selection Table (by Application Environment)
表格
| Application Environment | Recommended Grade | Typical Use | Key Advantage |
|---|---|---|---|
| General Building Structures | S235JRH | Low-rise buildings, railings, supports | Low cost, excellent weldability, widely available |
| Medium Load Structures | S275J0H / S275J2H | Multi-story buildings, plant columns, platforms | Moderate strength, good low-temperature toughness (J2H) |
| Heavy Load / Bridges | S355J0H / S355K2H | Bridges, large-span roofs, heavy equipment supports | High strength, impact resistant, suitable for complex stress |
| Cold Region Projects | S355NLH / S420NLH | Northern/Cold climate, polar projects | Superior low-temp toughness (-50°C), prevents brittle fracture |
| Weathering / Outdoor Exposure | S355J0W / S355J2W | Outdoor towers, port facilities, transmission poles | Contains Cu, Cr, Ni; forms protective rust layer, no painting needed |
| Ultra-High Strength / Lightweight | S460NH / S500NH | Super high-rise, special machinery arms, mobile equipment | Very high yield strength, reduces weight by 30%+, material saving |
Note:
"H" = Hollow Section;
"J0/J2/K2" = Impact energy level (J0: 0°C, J2: -20°C, K2: -40°C);
"N" = Normalized rolling, improves toughness;
"W" = Weathering steel.
